A HISTORIC FIRST HATCHING
UVO are delighted to announce the arrival of the first osprey chick to hatch in the Usk Valley for around 250 years.
At 08:04 on Monday 2nd June, Clogwyn, the resident female, stood up just enough to reveal that her first egg had hatched.
A tiny chick, still trying to discard part of the shell from its head, faced the bright morning sunshine for the first time, completely oblivious of its own historic status. But it needed warmth to dry out and time to recover its strength after the enormous effort of hatching and Clogwyn was quick to settle back down again.
UVO would like to acknowledge Welsh Government and Wildlife Windows for enabling us all to see into the nest and share a truly wonderful moment. UVO would also like to thank its team of trained Watchers for their dedication in monitoring the Gilestone osprey family and helping to keep them safe. This is surely the best possible reward.
