A Second Egg

Usk Valley Ospreys livestream cameras have confirmed that a second egg was laid in the Gilestone nest at 18.03 hours today. This was 70 hours after the first egg was laid on Sunday 19th April.

It was a traumatic afternoon for the resident pair as an intruding osprey – believed unringed – made three passes very close to the nest but both Syfaddan and Clogwyn sat tight on the nest in defence, and a few hours later Syfaddan was momentarily caught in baler twine that had been gathered with soft nest linings a few days ago.

This acts as an unfortunate reminder of the impact mankind has on the environment coming at a very sensitive time for our pair with full incubation now about to begin. UVO will strive to act in the best interests of the birds and within the constraints of the licensing system devised to safeguard rare breeding birds.
