NEST CAMS GO LIVE

9K5 preparing for flight from the cup camera last September 2025

Livestreaming of video from the two cameras at Talybont-on-Usk is now LIVE via this website here and You Tube. UVO are again grateful to Welsh Government and camera/tech consultants Wildlife Windows for facilitating the third year of observing the Gilestone nest.

It was especially fortunate that Wildlife Windows staff climbed to the nest earlier than usual – 3rd March – to reset the cameras to allow limited viewing. What they saw over the following three weeks was the virtual destruction of the osprey nest by jackdaw pilfering most of the sticks for their own nests.

Wildlife Windows returned on 25th March equipped with lightweight materials virtually to rebuild the nest onto a secured frame through which nest-sticks are now tied. Advice sought confirmed this would be beneficial for any breeding attempt even though the likelihood would be that the male would rebuild virtually from scratch.

While the pair of osprey are yet to return to the valley, UVO expect them to do so in the next 5 – 10 days.

Fingers crossed they do - and for a successful breeding season.
